Cariports
History
By becoming a “Grand Port Maritime” under French law in 2013, the Port of Guadeloupe has been given the authority to develop and manage the natural areas in its district.
As early as 2009, it began acquiring environmental data to improve its knowledge of the natural areas in its district. The launch of the Càyoli environmental program in 2016 has enabled the Port to build on the work it has been carrying out for several years.
The aim of this partnership-based environmental program is to develop and implement concrete solutions adapted to the restoration of coastal island ecosystems.
At the same time, it is firmly committed to the fight against climate change. In order to mitigate its effects, Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes undertakes projects and initiates adaptation works on port infrastructures. Furthermore, he has committed to a decarbonization process for his activities.

Objectives
The objectives of the project are:
- Improve the response capacity of Caribbean ports in the face of increasing natural hazards exacerbated by global warming.
- To provide Caribbean ports with tailored support for the integration of environmental issues into the development of their port.
The ultimate goal of CariPorts is to create an environmental label for Caribbean ports that takes into account their specificities and constraints.
