From March 6 to 10, 2023, the 3rd edition of the Humpback Whale World Congress took place in the Dominican Republic. The congress aimed to promote scientific research and conservation efforts for the species, bringing together researchers, scientists, and experts engaged in associated research fields.
A delegation from the Grand Port Maritime de la Guadeloupe attended the congress and presented its work and actions on the subject. Through regular monitoring campaigns, significant data are collected by GPMG (every two years) to contribute to knowledge about the species and adapt port activities in areas where it is present.
Since 2009, the Port of Guadeloupe has actively participated in funding research programs, theses, post-doctoral projects to advance knowledge and conservation efforts. The CariPorts project also involves sharing the experience gained by the Port of Guadeloupe and synergizing the expertise and strategies of each Caribbean territory to build an efficient model of common preservation and resilience.
